Fantasy map maker — editable terrain, routes & player/GM exports
An original map editor for small tabletop worlds and campaign handouts. Start from a deterministic island seed, edit terrain cell by cell, organize regions, name locations and keep game-master secrets out of the player export.

Supported scope: A fixed 32×20 tile world, not a full planetary geography simulation or a real map. Up to 40 locations, 40 routes and 6 region slots in imported projects; the generated project has 4 named region slots. No real-world geographic data or third-party art is used. · Land routes move only between orthogonal cells. Water is impassable; no ferries, diagonal steps or manual road bends. The lowest terrain-cost path may be longer in distance than another path. Travel times are fictional game rules. · No automatic storage or account. Saved JSON up to 200 KB. Player files omit secret locations/routes, but title and region names are public. GM/project/route CSV contain secrets. PNG export requires the browser’s local image/canvas support.

Are these maps copied from an existing game?
No. The generator creates original fictional tile geography from a seed, with original simple vector symbols and sample names. You can edit the world and labels. No campaign map library or proprietary art is included.
How are routes chosen?
A Dijkstra search finds the least-cost orthogonal land path. Plain costs 1, forest 1.5 and mountain 2.5, using the average cost at the two ends of each step. Water is blocked. Distance counts cell steps; travel hours use terrain-weighted distance divided by a fictional 4 km/h.
Why can a route become disconnected?
Painting water, moving an endpoint onto water or changing the connected land area may remove every land path. The route is then listed as unreachable and is not drawn. The tool does not invent a bridge, ferry or jump across water.
Do player files contain hidden GM labels?
Secret locations and their attached routes are omitted from player SVG/PNG/HTML, rather than merely hidden with CSS. The public title, terrain and region names still appear. GM maps, the editable project and route CSV contain secrets and are labeled accordingly.
Can I edit without precise mouse painting?
Yes. Enter a cell X from 0–31 and Y from 0–19, select a brush and press Apply. The same coordinates can position a location. Pointer selection is a convenience; the main actions also work through labeled keyboard controls.
What should I save before closing?
Save the editable project JSON to reopen the world. SVG and PNG are handouts, and HTML is a standalone player view. Initial report downloads describe the submitted map; Prepare player and GM files inside the editor saves the current edited version.
